Barcelona FC fans demand answers about VIP seat rights and club partnerships
When you think of FC Barcelona, what comes to mind? For me, it’s the passion of the fans, the artistry on the pitch, and the iconic Spotify Camp Nou. But recently, a shadow has been cast over the club’s famed VIP seats, leaving many socios (club members) questioning the transparency of their beloved institution.
Last Thursday, a group of prominent Barcelona socios, including Jaume Llopis and Ricard Faura, sent a formal letter to the club’s Compliance Officer, Sergi Atienza. Their concerns? The involvement of New Era Visionary Group FZ-LCC, a new partner of the club, in the management and exploitation of VIP seats at the revamped Spotify Camp Nou. These socios are demanding to know the specifics of this partnership, including whether the company has been granted exclusive rights to these coveted seats.
The heart of the matter lies in transparency—or, rather, the lack of it. The socios have raised questions about the legal representatives of New Era Visionary Group, specifically Ruslan Birladeanu and Francisco Maza Sánchez. Allegations about their past dealings, including possible legal troubles in Moldova and Andorra, have only added fuel to the fire. Are these individuals fit to represent a company so closely tied to FC Barcelona? And what criteria did the club use to select this partner in the first place?
Adding to the intrigue is the role of the VIP seats themselves. These aren’t just any seats; they’re status symbols, networking hubs, and revenue generators. Their allocation and management are critical not only to the club’s finances but also to its image. If New Era Visionary Group has indeed been granted control over these seats, what does this mean for the socios who have supported the club through thick and thin?
This isn’t the first time questions have been raised about Barcelona’s partnerships. In November, New Era Visionary Group was officially named the club’s telecom operator, a move that also sparked controversy. The socios are now asking whether this decision followed proper protocols and whether other companies like Orange were given a fair shot during the bidding process.
For a club that prides itself on being “Més que un club” (more than a club), these controversies strike at the very core of its identity. Transparency and accountability should be non-negotiable, especially when it comes to decisions that impact the socios and the broader fanbase.
As a lifelong Barcelona fan, I can’t help but feel a mix of frustration and hope. Frustration at the lack of clarity and hope that the socios’ persistence will lead to the answers we all deserve. After all, the fans are the heartbeat of this club, and their voices should never be ignored.
