Barcelona’s young star Gavi might be sidelined with an injury, but that hasn’t stopped him from receiving the royal treatment. The 19-year-old midfielder, recovering from a torn ACL and meniscus, recently found himself the center of attention at the prestigious Princess of Girona awards ceremony.
While unable to join his Spanish teammates for the Euro 2024 final, Gavi had a memorable encounter with King Felipe VI at the gala. The King, a known admirer of the young footballer, expressed his well wishes and confidence in Gavi’s future with the national team. This isn’t the first time Gavi has caught the eye of the Spanish monarchy. Princess Leonor, a devoted football enthusiast, is rumored to be quite fond of the Barcelona prodigy, even adorning her schoolbooks with his pictures.
The King’s admiration for Gavi was evident during the 2022 World Cup as well. After Spain’s victory against Costa Rica, King Felipe, unable to contain his excitement, requested a signed shirt from the young star. The image of the King, clearly elated with the memento, despite the shirt being a tad small, speaks volumes about Gavi’s impact on and off the field. Gavi’s talent and charisma have clearly won over fans from all walks of life, including those in the highest echelons of Spanish society.
